Topanga.coop is a directory created by, and owned by, our community. Topanga has held thousands of offerings for years, and almost none of it has been findable in one place. This is the simplest answer to that: a home where the canyon can find itself, see what's happening this week, and where neighbors stay in charge of their own information.
Chasing the canyon across five apps is enough to drive anyone crazy.
Events live in WhatsApp groups, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, paper flyers, and whatever a friend texted you. Recommendations for a good plumber or a sound healer get buried in a thread three weeks back.
The canyon doesn't lack for offerings. It lacks a single place to find them.
A cooperative discovery and opportunity commons.
Topanga.coop is a directory at heart: a place to find your people, find your work, find your fun, and find your mission mates. It is also a place to be found by a neighbor looking for what you offer.
It is cooperatively owned. No ads. No data brokering. No surveillance economy. The value created by making the canyon more findable stays with the canyon.
Four principles, plainly.
- Community-built, cooperatively owned. The directory belongs to the people in it.
- No ads. No surveillance. No extraction. Your contact info is not a product.
- Your words, not ours. Profiles and events appear as their people wrote them.
- Start simple, grow on demand. Events came first. The directory comes next.
One neighbor at a time.
- Find your profile. Many canyon neighbors and organizations are already here. Claim your entry and make it yours.
- Refine what's there. Add a photo, a description, what you offer, what you're looking for, and how you want to be reached.
- Be findable, and find others. Search for services, collaborators, classes, gathering places, and mission mates.
- Vouch for others. Recommendations make trust visible without turning neighbors into ratings.
